Book Review #1: Becoming by Michelle Obama

This book was honestly one of the first reasons of why I wanted to start a book review. It gave me a surging desire to join a Book Club so that I could talk with someone about how much joy this book brought me!

Firstly, doesn't everyone have interest in knowing how one becomes president? I've always found this fascinating and wondered about this! How in the world do you go from a normal person who grew up in Hawaii to becoming President of one of the most powerful countries in the world? This book provides you with great detail the exact transition of life both Mr. and Mrs. Obama lived through into becoming POTUS and FLOTUS.

What was most amazing of course is how quickly it happened! It was truly happening before Michelle's eyes as she was trying to start her family of two little daughters in Chicago and her husband started being asked by onlookers "Are you going to consider running for president?"

My favorite parts were the hilarious close-up snapshots of their reality. It was incredible to be reminded of just how young their two daughters were when all of this came to be. How Sasha their youngest daughter would call the Secret Service the "Secret People". Or how both Michelle and Barack were a relatively new couple when their entire lives were transferred to the White House and their sweet attempts to keep their "date nights" alive. Of course, requiring a fleet of security vehicles, private helicopters and road closures.

All in all though, the most beautiful part of this book is how it reminds you of what life can bring us. How life is truly made up of miracles. There are miracles that happen in every day life all the time, miracles that happen to ordinary people. It brings you a sense of wonderment and joy in the breathtaking glimpse of how life can take the most amazing turns, ones that you never even dreamed of.
